BEEB video online: time to VOTE

Our video is finally online !

It is time to concretely support BEEB, a social enterprise that aims to improve food security in slums worldwide.

Please vote for our video in the Hult Prize online competition, so that we can get expert advice on how to further develop our idea in a social enterprise incubator, present at the Clinton Global Initiative, and get up to $1,000,000 USD in funding to implement it.

To support our project, please follow these three steps:

1. Like the Hult Prize Online Event page:

2. Click on “Watch Videos & Vote”, at the bottom right of the page.

3. Vote for our video “BEEB – Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris”, and share the link.

This project is our passion and we’re committed to bringing it to fruition. We really hope that it will inspire you too. Create the buzz with us and help fight world hunger!

Thanks so much for your support – we’ll keep you updated about the online competition results.

BEEB has a logo!

BEEB-Logo_FINAL jpegAs a tribute to our first inspiration, bees and hives, we chose three orange hexagons for our logo (think honeycomb!). Bees embody good communication and efficient organization, two characteristics of our model. BEEB Hives are the central hubs. They link slum dwellers and their aggregated demand for fresh produce directly to the offers of local farmers.

Our slogan, Create the buzz, is important. By sharing our idea and, soon, liking our video for the Hult Prize online competition, you can help us to win $1,000,000 and make the BEEB vision come true to help make nutritious food more accessible to slum-dwellers.

Our video will be released next week. We are very excited to see our idea coming to life!

BEEB – The beginning

BEEB is a model for a social enterprise. It was created by 5 students (that’s us in the photo below: Camille, Mimi, Pippa, Lucie & Neia) from Sciences Po university in Paris as part of the Hult Prize competition .

BEEB is a response to the global food  crisis, which is a term to describe almost 1 billion people on our planet currently suffering from hunger and malnutrition.
BEEB is not a food aid programme, nor a miracle food nor even a ground-breaking technology. It is a market solution to a market problem.

Healthy, nutritious food is produced in abundance in almost all developing countries yet it isn’t accessible to the poorest segments of the population. These are communities that rely enormously on their health and energy to make a living. There is both a need and  a demand to eat well. Due to the scale of the problem, collectively, these communities form a market with huge potential for successful and self-sustaining social business. All that is missing is a new market mechanism to meet their demand. This is what BEEB does . BEEB empowers, informs and organises communities on low incomes. It allows them to communicate and trade directly using resources that already exist.

In the coming days and weeks we will be working on a short video to explain the BEEB model to you in detail. This video will be entered in the Hult Online competition on Facebook. We will then be hoping to collect enough public votes to progress to the final stage of this global competition and be in the running for a $1,000,000 prize. The prize fund will be used to make the BEEB solution a reality.

Please follow our progress and send us any feedback or advice. We are a young and dynamic team always on the look out for new expertise and experience. If you think you can help us, please get in touch!
